South Caucasus...this is a region of beautiful nature, tasty cuisine, talented people and a land that history goes thousands of years past.  After a long time of struggling and lots of disappointments nowadays in this region people live from different nationalities, some in peace some in conflict, and each nationality has its own characteristics and own specifications to be proud of. But I want to talk about one problem, which is similar to each nation in South Caucasus, and nobody can be proud.  It's not about conflicts between countries, not about long strife to prove whose wine or dolma is better, it's about gender discrimination. Especially I want to talk about sex-selective abortions.

It's a big problem in the world, especially in China, India, Pakistan and Caucasus region. Researches shows that after China there are South Caucasus 3 countries – Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia have this problem. There are lots of researches that show numbers, charts and diagrams, where we can see the awful scene of increasing genocide of unborn girls all over the world, but no one answers the question "WHY?" Why people prefer boys to girls? Recent years this problem is increasing in Caucasus region, even more - some regions in Armenia are in the first place all over the world by the ratio of boys and girls (127 boys/100 girls, while even 114/100 is considered to be a problematic).

Most of all it's the decision of husband, who wants to have a boy, and wives don't have a chance to say NO because of traditions (here is the region where men rule in families and women are just a part of family whose role is just to born a child and prepare something to eat). After all it brings to a situation where many young boys can't find a couple, demography of countries deforms and people live in an unhealthy atmosphere.

Nowadays, economic situation doesn't allow having more than 2-3 children (in some cases even more than one). And people prefer either have one boy and stop or if the first child was a girl, at least the second must be boy for sure. And for making dream true (to have a boy), husbands make their wives go to abortion every time when she gets pregnant and they check that it is girl.

If this situation goes on, in future Caucasus region will become a place with plenty Caucasian proud boys who either bit themselves to a rock because of missing girls or marry to a girl from abroad. Both versions are horrible for me, from one side it's a huge psychological pressure on man, from the other side it's a big problem for demography of this region.
